Modern Day Cappadocia

St. Basil the Great, archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia, was the Father of Communal Monasticism. He began such a society in Cappadocia around 300. The ascetics remained until around 1923 when the last ascetics were expelled from Turkey.
